Shots were reportedly fired at San Antonio Air Force Base
[Alles Europa News] – Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) also known as Lackland Air Force Base, is a U.S. military facility based in San Antonio, Texas, USA.
An Air Force base in San Antonio was cordoned off Wednesday afternoon for about an hour, after military officials said gunfire had been reported near an entrance.
Two shots were heard coming from outside joint base Lackland around 11:50 a.m., said Lt. Col. Brian Loveless, commander of 802 Squadron security forces. Investigators are trying to determine whether the shooting report was true or a false alarm, he said.
It was not clear if anyone had seen a shooter or if more than one shooter might have been involved, he said.
“We are currently trying to investigate a few leads to confirm that shots were fired at the facility.” No injuries were reported, Loveless said.
Lackland Base is located on the southeast side of San Antonio and it is there that the Air Force conducts all of its base training. “There are a lot of facilities on this base that are very important for the air force. I’d rather overreact (to a report of gunshots) than not react at all,” the lieutenant-colonel said.
The base had issued an alert at noon, telling all lackland air force base personnel to take cover. Officials said shots were fired on the west side of the main base, just east of Interstate 410 and near a shopping mall.
The alert was lifted after one hour, except for the “Valley Hi” gate, near the area from which the shots were allegedly fired.
